Aeden Geography

Aeden is a fair world, with a flat horizon. There is a single main continent that is huge, roughly the size of Europe, Russia and China. There are also several islands which vary in size from just smaller than Australia to chains of coral atolls. The name Aeden is used to refer both to the world, and to the major continent on that world. A large map with major geographical feature names is available, click on the smaller map below:

Terrain

These are examples of some of the different types of  terrain to be found within Aeden.

Craggy CoastlinesStpauls
The coastlines of most of Aeden are dangerous cliffs, with the occasional sandy bay offering safe shallow anchorage. Safe deep anchorages are few and far between, and are noted places for prosperous ports. The northern coasts are most difficult to apporach, whilst reefs protect much of the southern coastline.

Experienced deep-water sailors know how to approach shore properly, measuring the drop in sea depth using weighted lines. Unfortunately many sailors from the inner seas have tried their luck in the deep waters, only to find themselves without safe harbour when the mighty storms come that lash the coast all year round.

Desert WastelandsSouthern Wastes
In the hot south, much of the land is given over to desert. Great sandy dunes cover a massive area of land that is dry and terribly hot. At the edge of the dunes the land is rocky, with tough red hills standing proud against the sands erosion.

Great Desert

The Inner CoastRuins in the Fire Mountains
The Inner Coast describes the area surrounding the Infinite Deep. Whilst far enough north to be exposed to more temperate weather, the hotter waters of the great Deep contrive to make this area unseasonably warm. Crops still grow well, but the weather favours the hardier crops like olives and grapes, that can withstand the summer´s heat.

The Mountainous NorthGreat Northern Range
The mountains of the Great Northern Range rear up in the north as a bulwark against the cold, snow-bearing winds that sweep down from the northern icelands. This is an area of massive snow-covered mountains and deep fertile valleys. Some of the most beautiful terrain in all of Aeden is found here, as are some of the most fearsome creatures, such as the giant black bear.
